Maria Arango's
QUEST: 1,000 Woodcuts
August 2006 Update - 238
completed
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
Hello dear friends!
So much for summer, huh? Where did it go? In a nutshell, this is what I did
this summer since June: -Finished some print editions so I could offer a
new set of blocks to collectors this fall -Lost air conditioner and roasted
for 2 weeks
-Almost lost dog to stupid "bloat" disease followed by pneumonia,
she's doing fine now although hopelessly addicted to being hand-fed home-cooked
meals (go figure) -Made 6 new prints, some for exchanges and some for
me
-Started a Grand Canyon series of very large woodcuts; undoubtedly
I will still be talking about them next summer
-Finished a book entitled
"Artist's Guide to Becoming Rich and FamousWithout Ever Leaving the Studio"--wait,
that's not it, how about:
"Guide to Art Festivals for Artists", yes! that's
it, to be published this fall/winter
Bodyscapes I and II, the latest works hot off the press!
As
always, you can peruse the latest works here:

Thoughts and Ramblings
My closest friends know me as a privacy-loving person who occasionally
becomes a very social bug; it's a paradox. I love my solitude and I don't mind
spending time alone, such as I did this summer. But I also love art festivals
and enjoy talking to folks about my art as they walk by my booth. Those who
don't know me very well might tend to think of me as very outgoing. Once I'm
in "studio mode" I tend to become a hermit and dread the phone ringing.
Along those lines, I love to work alone and shy away from collaborations
and artistic social gatherings. But! I just love to get artists involved in
group projects...another paradox. So this summer I also started yet another
large collaborative affair involving 79 printmakers from all over the world.
It goes something like this: I make a design in a rather large block of wood,
I cut it up into pieces, I send the pieces to all the participating artists
who carve their own little world into the piece of the puzzle. When all the
carved little blocks are returned to me, I print the whole thing and everyone
gets some prints of the entire completed puzzle. Check it out, it's fun, intriguing
and a true collaborative masterpiece of rather large proportions; it's also
my second one and hopefully not the last:

The Quote that got me through this summer:
Forget mistakes. Forget failures.
Forget everything except what you're going to do now and do it. Today is your
lucky day.
