Image: From the "road" series. Lake Powell
is the result of building a dam and taming the Colorado River into a series
of lakes that sparkle in the desert heat. Unfortunately, the spectacle
is a sad one, as a huge portion of the waters of the once wild river evaporate
helplessly in the heat or percolate by the thousands of gallons through
the porous sandstone lake bed.
Despite all that, there isn't anything quite like the sight of this
blue lake in the midst of red hot sandstone lands.
