Block: Bubinga
Ink: Mixes of red, blue, black, purple,
umber and pure red with copper
Paper: Banana Bark Ivory, hand-made
Process: This is a "puzzle" piece, in which the block was sawn in 7 pieces
prior to printing. Each piece is inked separately, then assembled at the press.
All colors can then be printed in one pass. This particular piece of wood was
very dense but brittle as I found during printing; the edges softened within
about 10 prints. The edition had to be cut off early due to deterioration of
the wood block.
Image: A fantasy landscape inspired by the very interestingly figured woodblock.
When I started working with the image, it seemed like I found "people"
everywhere watching me work and waiting. I played with that concept and soon
there were little people all over the landscape.
