Image: Prickly pear cacti bloom and produce
fruit against all odds. These live in our "back forty" a raw piece of desert
in the back of our property. We don't water back there, so whatever grows
does so purely out of the stubborn desire to live that characterizes most
of these Mojave desert plant life. This year was a good one for prickly
pears, they turned a bright red color lighting the cacti like a Christmas
tree.
