Image:     This is an image done for a themed exchange: Sacred Tree. When I was growing up in Spain, there were many legends and stories passed down from generation to generation. As the story is told, there was a terrible drought that left farmers working the dry fields without hope for a crop. Some farmers kept working, but others gave up faith and went to the fields only to beg God for mercy and rain. Angered by their lack of faith, God turned the suplicants into trees and bound them forever to the earth. It is said that the new trees shaded the crops and rewarded those farmers that had worked through the drought.
