Comment: While hiking in nearby Valley of Fire I enjoy exploring the hundreds
of small canyons that harbor a myriad of secret hiding places. They let you
in and allow you to explore snake and coyote tracks, enjoy the occasional year-round
spring, lay down on a well packed burro grass bed...
Sometimes they even lead you to the rare 'tinaja' a pool of clear spring water
that allows you to watch shy desert wildlife come and go. Sometimes, though,
they don't let you out and lead you to an impassable dead end with unsurmountable
cliffs all around. Nothing sinister about it, although always surprising to
be 'caught' in a delightful desert trap.
