Meet Cathie Crawford
"I have been a Printmaker and Art Educator for almost 30 years.
I was a
lithograhper for 15 years but have been concentrating on color reduction
woodcuts and monotypes since 1985. I completed a M.F.A. in Printmaking
from
Bradley University in 1987. I am from the USA but am currently living
in
Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. I told my husband I would follow him anywhere
I could
take my press, a Dickerson Combination. So here we are.
I am also interested in information about juried or invitational
Printmaking
or Works on Paper Exhibitions in Europe or the Middle East.
My work has
been included in over 200 Exhibitions including forty juried National
exhibitions in the USA and a few international exhibitions as well.
Shipping
costs makes continuing to enter National shows in the US out of
reach. How
do you Baren folks afford to ship your prints all over the world
for these
print exchanges? I paid UPS $90 to ship a print rolled in
a cardboard tube
from Jeddah to New Jersey for a National exhibition I got in (one
way with
no insurance). I have found it difficult to find out about exhibition
opportunities living in Saudi Arabia and feel relatively cut off
from the
art world. I cancelled all my subscriptions to my art periodicals
when I
moved because they would all be confiscated or defaced with a magic
marker.
Even Times Magazine is defaced with a black marker to cover any
arms,legs or
other skin that is exposed ( I kid you not). Other than that, I
love my life
here and wouldn't trade this experience for the world."
