Kim Kaschimer-Medina was born in Honolulu, Hawaii
in 1969 and spent her childhood moving around California while her father
was in the military. She was first exposed to "art" in craft form. Both
of her parents were artisans and participated in craft shows, swap meets
and open house parties to sell their work. Consequently, Kim took an early
interest in creative expression and experimented with many types of media
throughout her studies. She recently received her Bachelor of Fine Arts
degree in Combined Media from the University of Arizona, emphasizing graphic
design and illustration.
It was her studies in printmaking, however, that
really made a connection with the ideas in her head. She enjoys the process
and the end results of the medium. Her work has been exhibited in Tucson
as well as in Nebraska and Belfast, Northern Ireland. She is a member of
the Malaspina Printmakers Society in Vancouver, BC and won the 1996 Award
of Merit at the 20th Annual Visual Communications Exhibit at the Lionel
Rombach Gallery in Tucson. Currently, Kim is experimenting with non-toxic
printmaking techniques and is teaching printmaking workshops around Tucson
as well as running her freelance business, Topcogs Design.
